XD16III
Sliding-Headstock Swiss Lathe

The Hanwha XD16III is a compact, high-speed 5-axis Swiss-type lathe designed for precise production of small components from bar stock up to Ø16 mm. The machine's 15,000 rpm main spindle makes it well suited to harder-to-machine materials and small-diameter features that benefit from elevated cutting speeds, while its 2.2/3.7 kW motor delivers the torque needed to maintain surface finish in stainless, titanium, and alloy steels. The standard tool layout includes five OD tools (□12 mm), four front tools (ER11 at Ø20 mm shank), and four cross drill positions (three ER11 plus one ER16). Cross drill speed is 6,000 rpm for the ER16 position and 9,000 rpm for the ER11 positions, giving flexibility for mixed drilling operations. A back tool post carries four ER11 tools in the H (guide bush, driven back tool) configuration (two fixed, two driven at 9,000 rpm, 1.0 kW motor), or four fixed ER11 tools in the J (guide bush, fixed back tool) configuration. Z1 stroke with guide bush is 155 mm. An optional Cross Unit 5 with modular design (three ER11 tools plus two modular ER16 tools) and a front tool unit that attaches to the 5-axis cross unit are available for shops requiring additional front-machining capability. A 1-tool long drill option (ER11) supports deep-hole drilling to 76.5 mm depth. The sub-spindle runs at 10,000 rpm with a 0.55/1.1 kW motor. At 2,200 kg and 1,700 x 1,190 x 1,670 mm, the XD16III has one of the smallest footprints in the XD range, making it practical for shops with limited floor space. AMT Machine Tools is the Canadian dealer for Hanwha, supplying the XD16III with full parts and service support.

Key Features

XD16III Features

Standard features that set this machine apart in demanding manufacturing environments.

Precision & Performance

  • 15,000 rpm main spindle delivers the cutting speed required for small-diameter work in stainless, titanium, and challenging alloys
  • Fast sub-spindle speed (10,000 rpm) supports efficient backworking on the 16 mm diameter range
  • Gear-driven back tool motor (1.0 kW) provides strong performance for back-machining operations

Machining Capability

  • Mixed cross drill configuration (ER11 x 3 plus ER16 x 1) gives flexibility between fine drilling and larger-shank tooling in a single cross unit
  • Choice of H (driven back tool) or J (fixed back tool) configuration to match shop requirements

Built-In Extras

  • Compact 1,700 mm machine length suits shops with limited floor space
  • Optional Cross Unit 5 with modular design (ER11 x 3 + modular ER16 x 2) for expanded milling capability

FAQ

XD16III Questions

Answers to common questions about the XD16III.

The XD16III handles bar stock up to Ø16 mm. It uses TF22 chuck on both main and sub-spindles and a TD20R guide bush, with a Z1 stroke of 155 mm in guide bush configuration.

The main spindle reaches 15,000 rpm with a 2.2/3.7 kW motor, making it one of the higher-speed models in the Hanwha XD range for small-diameter work. The sub-spindle runs at 10,000 rpm, supported by a 0.55/1.1 kW motor.

The brochure documents the H (guide bush with driven back tool) and J (guide bush with fixed back tool) configurations for the XD16III. A non-guide bush variant is not listed in the brochure; confirm current availability with AMT Machine Tools.
