Sliding-Headstock Swiss Lathe

The Hanwha XD10 (also referenced as XD10II in the brochure) is a high-productivity, small-footprint Swiss-type lathe built to turn bar stock up to Ø10 mm with the speed and accuracy demanded by medical device, electronics, and watchmaking applications. The main spindle reaches 15,000 rpm with a 2.2/3.7 kW motor — the same speed class as the XD16III — and the sub-spindle matches at 10,000 rpm. This combination supports fast cycle times on the small-diameter turned parts where the XD10 excels. The tooling arrangement reflects the compact diameter class: six □8 mm turning tool positions on the OD gang, four ER11 front tool positions, and four ER11M cross drill positions (with an option to extend to five ER11M). Cross drilling speed reaches 10,000 rpm driven by a 0.55 kW motor, allowing fine milling and drilling operations on parts this size. The Y2-axis back tool post is a standard feature and holds eight ER11 tools (four fixed, four driven) at 9,000 rpm, with an option to reduce to four back tools (fixed two, driven two). Back tool motor power is 0.55 kW. An optional whirling tool unit (two ER11M positions plus one modular whirling position) is available for thread whirling and related operations, making the XD10 particularly relevant for bone screws, dental implant screws, and other threaded medical components. The guide bush uses an SD125R bush with a TF16 chuck on both main and sub-spindles. Z1 stroke is 155 mm. Machine footprint is 1,810 x 970 mm, and weight is 2,200 kg — one of the most compact configurations in the Hanwha XD line. The XD10 uses a Hanwha Fanuc-i controller. AMT Machine Tools is the Canadian dealer for Hanwha, supporting the XD10 across Canada.

Key Features

XD10 Features

Standard features that set this machine apart in demanding manufacturing environments.

Precision & Performance

  • 15,000 rpm main spindle and 10,000 rpm sub-spindle provide the elevated cutting speeds required for small-diameter precision work
  • Y2-axis back tool post with eight ER11 positions (four fixed, four driven) as standard, enabling complex backworking without a second machine pass
  • Cross drilling at 10,000 rpm with up to five ER11M positions (option) covers fine milling and hole-making on Ø10 mm parts
  • Hanwha Fanuc-i controller with familiar programming environment and fast spindle indexing

Built-In Extras

  • Compact 1,810 x 970 mm floor footprint — one of the smallest in the Hanwha XD range
  • Optional thread whirling tool unit (ER11M plus modular whirling) supports bone screws, dental implant threads, and other helical-form features
  • Six □8 mm OD turning positions on the gang tool holder for efficient tool layout at this diameter class

FAQ

XD10 Questions

Answers to common questions about the XD10.

The XD10 is designed for bar stock up to Ø10 mm. It uses a TF16 chuck on both the main and sub-spindles and an SD125R guide bush, with a Z1 stroke of 155 mm.

Yes, an optional whirling tool unit is available, consisting of two ER11M positions and one modular whirling holder. This makes the XD10 well suited for producing bone screws, dental implant threads, and other helical-form parts.

The standard configuration includes a Y2-axis back tool post with eight ER11 tools (four fixed, four driven at 9,000 rpm). An option reduces this to four back tools (two fixed, two driven) if less back-tool capacity is needed.
