Sliding-Headstock Swiss Lathe

The Hanwha XD20/26III is the third-generation evolution of Hanwha's popular mid-diameter XD platform, handling bar capacities of up to Ø20 mm or Ø26 mm in a single convertible machine. The headline addition over its predecessor is a standard Y2-axis back tool post carrying eight ER16 tools (four fixed, four driven) that enables complex backworking operations without requiring a separate machine pass. A gear-driven modular back tool design makes routine tool changes straightforward and keeps the back-tool system compatible with XD20/26II tooling. The guide bush unit is convertible between guide bush (H) and non-guide bush (N) configurations, giving shops the flexibility to run both long slender parts and shorter workpieces efficiently on the same machine. With a guide bush, Z1 stroke extends to 240 mm for Ø20 mm bar or 240 mm for Ø26 mm bar; without it, stroke is 60 mm (Ø20) or 80 mm (Ø26). The main spindle reaches 10,000 rpm for the 20 mm variant and 8,000 rpm for the 26 mm variant, powered by a 2.2/3.7 kW motor (Ø20) or 2.2/5.5 kW motor (Ø26) on Fanuc, and 16 kW on Siemens. The cross drilling and milling unit carries five ER16 tools as standard (1.0 kW Fanuc / 1.02 kW Siemens motor), with an option to upgrade to a more powerful 2.2 kW Fanuc motor for heavier cross-milling work. The front tool post holds five ER16M tools at Ø25 mm shank, while the OD gang carries six □12 mm holders for Ø20 mm or five □16 mm holders for Ø26 mm. An optional off-centre drill unit adds two ER16 positions. The sub-spindle runs at 8,000 rpm and is motor-driven, with an off-centre drill option available. AMT Machine Tools supplies and supports the XD20/26III across Canada.

FAQ

XD20/26III Questions

Answers to common questions about the XD20/26III.

The XD20/26III handles bar stock up to Ø20 mm or Ø26 mm. Both capacities are available in one convertible machine — the guide bush and chuck sizes differ between the two configurations (TF25/TD25-NS for Ø20 mm; TF32/CD25 for Ø26 mm).

The XD20/26III is available with either a Hanwha Fanuc-i control or a Siemens 828D control. Both options support the machine's full 5-axis (plus Y2) capability.

The XD20/26III is the third-generation model. Its key upgrade over the XD20/26II is a standard Y2-axis back tool post carrying eight ER16 tools, an enhanced machine structure for better rigidity, and an option for a more powerful cross-drill motor (2.2 kW Fanuc). The back tool system also uses the same modular tooling as the XD20/26II, so existing tool holders transfer across.
