4-Axis Automatic Lathe

The Hanwha XP20/26/32S is a 4-axis CNC automatic lathe offered in three bar-diameter configurations: XP20S (Ø20 mm), XP26S (Ø26 mm), and XP32S (Ø32 mm). Controlled by the Hanwha Fanuc-i system and built on the same compact platform across all three variants, the XP series is Hanwha's answer for shops that need the precision, repeatability, and programming flexibility of a CNC machine at an accessible price point. The brochure describes the XP series as both "a long-runner with a proven record of performance and production quality" and "perfect for an old cam lathe user who seeks higher precision and productivity" — positioning that reflects a real upgrade path for shops still running spindle automatics. The XP20S and XP26S share a main spindle speed of 8,000 rpm, while the XP32S runs at 8,000 rpm with a significantly more powerful motor (5.5/7.5 kW versus 2.2/3.7 kW for the smaller variants). All three share the same Z1 stroke — 210 mm for the XP20S and XP26S, 205 mm for the XP32S — and the same basic tooling layout: 6 OD tools (□12 mm) for the Ø20 variant and 5 OD tools (□16 mm) for the Ø26/32 variants, 4 front tools (ER16M, Ø25), and a 4-position cross drill. The guide bush system uses the proven TD25NS collet holder assembly for the main, sub, and guide positions. The sub spindle runs at 8,000 rpm on the smaller two variants and uses a 1.5/2.2 kW motor for the XP32S. A Cross Unit 4 with one modular position (ER16M x 4) is available as an option for all XP20/26/32S variants, and the standard cross unit is non-modular. At 2,300 kg for the XP20S/26S and 2,500 kg for the XP32S, and with a shared footprint of 2,030 x 1,140 x 1,710 mm, the XP series is one of the more compact Swiss-type automatic lathes in the Hanwha range. Power consumption is 2.2 kVA running (rated 4.7 kVA for the Ø20/26, rated 9.5 kVA for the Ø32), making it economical to integrate into existing shop electrical infrastructure.

Ideal For

  • Shops upgrading from cam-operated automatic lathes to CNC precision production
  • High-volume runs of standard turned parts where cycle time and repeatability are the key metrics
  • Job shops that need a compact, lower-cost Swiss-type platform to handle work that does not require multi-path or B-axis capability
  • Facilities running mixed bar diameters across Ø20–32 mm who want a common programming and tooling base
  • Operations adding capacity cost-effectively alongside existing Swiss or fixed-headstock CNC lathes
Key Features

XP20/26/32S Features

Standard features that set this machine apart in demanding manufacturing environments.

Precision & Performance

  • Positioned as a direct upgrade from cam-operated automatic lathes, the XP series delivers CNC precision and repeatability with a compact machine envelope that fits in existing shop cells.
  • The XP32S main spindle motor (5.5/7.5 kW) provides substantially more cutting power than the smaller variants, enabling efficient machining of larger-diameter stainless, alloy steel, and non-ferrous components.
  • Cross drill at 6,000 rpm (5,000 rpm on XP32S) supports cross-hole features, flats, and milling operations without a separate machining step.

Ease of Operation

  • Hanwha Fanuc-i controller provides full G-code programmability, eliminating the setup time and skill requirements of cam adjustment while matching or exceeding cam-lathe cycle rates.
  • Optional Cross Unit 4 with modular position expands tooling flexibility for shops needing occasional specialty toolholder configurations.

Built-In Extras

  • Compact machine footprint (2,030 x 1,140 x 1,710 mm) and low running power (2.2 kVA) make the XP series cost-effective to install and operate in multi-machine configurations.
  • Three bar-diameter variants (Ø20, Ø26, Ø32 mm) on a shared footprint give shops a scalable, standardised platform across a wide range of part sizes.

FAQ

XP20/26/32S Questions

Answers to common questions about the XP20/26/32S.

The XP series is a 4-axis CNC automatic lathe rather than a 5-axis or higher sliding-headstock Swiss turning centre. It has fewer controlled axes and a simpler tooling layout, which translates to a more compact machine, lower acquisition cost, and a straightforward upgrade path for shops coming from cam-operated automatic lathes. The XE and XD series add more axes, more tooling stations, and greater part-complexity capability, but at a higher machine cost and footprint.

The XP20/26/32S family covers Ø20 mm (XP20S), Ø26 mm (XP26S), and Ø32 mm (XP32S). All three share the same machine body and Hanwha Fanuc-i controller, so programming and operator skills transfer across variants. The XP32S uses a higher-power spindle motor (5.5/7.5 kW) to handle the larger material cross-section.

The standard configuration includes 4 cross drill positions (ER16M) with a non-modular cross unit. An optional Cross Unit 4 with one modular position is available for shops that need occasional specialty toolholder configurations. The XP series does not support the full cross-unit option range available on the XD or XE series.
